Heart Above

The most striking thing about Heart Above is what happens when the horse arrives at Kelso. Three wins from 13 races at that track is a remarkable record — it means that every time Heart Above lines up there, it has roughly a 1-in-4 chance of winning outright, well above the 15% (roughly 1 in 7) it manages everywhere else. The most recent of those Kelso wins came just five weeks ago, on 24 May 2026, so this is not some dusty old affinity with the place — it is current and real. Something about that course clearly suits this horse, whether it is the layout, the ground, or simply familiarity built over years of racing there.

At eight years old, Heart Above is an experienced, seasoned competitor, and the most recent run — just yesterday — shows the horse is still firmly in training and active. The last six races show a win sandwiched between some quieter efforts, which is fairly typical of a horse operating at this level: not every run will set the world alight, but the wins keep coming. The first career win came at Perth in September 2024, suggesting Heart Above took a while to find its feet, but has since developed into a reliable performer.

The yard behind all of this belongs to Dianne Sayer, based up in Hackthorpe in Cumbria, and it has been in excellent form this season with 15 winners already sent out. Regular jockey Henry Brooke has partnered Heart Above in 14 of its 34 races, winning twice together — a win rate of 14%, or roughly 1 in 7, which mirrors the horse's overall average. The partnership is well-established, and when those two line up at Kelso again, anyone watching for the first time would do well to take notice.
