The recent form tells a familiar story. Over the last six races, the best it has managed is a third, with a couple of fourths and some more distant finishes mixed in. That third place is the closest it has come to breaking through, but so far the winning post has remained elusive. It raced just yesterday, so this is a horse very much in the thick of its campaign right now.
Jockey Kaiya Fraser has been the regular partner, riding in all six of those recent outings together without a win to show for it. That said, the pair have clearly been given every chance to find their rhythm. Havin A Flyer typically competes at Class 5, which is the entry level of British racing — the races where horses are finding their feet or running at a level that suits their current ability. From seven races at that level, it is yet to win, which does raise the question of whether a change of approach might eventually be needed.
The trainer is Rebecca Menzies, based in Morden, Durham, and her yard has been in solid form this season with 36 winners sent out — so it is not a case of the stable being quiet or out of sorts. Menzies clearly knows how to get horses winning, which means there may still be hope that Havin A Flyer eventually finds its moment. Some horses take time to figure out what racing is all about, and a yard with that kind of firepower behind it is well placed to find the right opportunity. For now, though, this is a horse that asks you to be patient — and keeps you waiting.
