Hastily

The most recent win came at Cork on 25 July 2025, now fourteen months in the past. Hastily has run six times since then without finding the winner's enclosure again, though it has picked up two places along the way. That's a drought, but the horse is still active—it raced just yesterday—and there is one telling detail: Hastily absolutely thrives on fast, dry ground. In three races on firm conditions, it has won twice, a 67 per cent return that suggests the type of day matters enormously. When the ground turns wet or heavy, Hastily's chances evaporate.

Trainer Tom McGuinness, working from an undisclosed yard, has Hastily in a yard that has sent out a winner this season. The horse is most often partnered by Jack Cleary, though that combination has produced only one win from fifteen races together. Neither the trainer nor the jockey have left obvious fingerprints on success, which points to something simpler: Hastily performs best at distances between seven furlongs and a mile, and at the right track with the right ground underfoot. It is not a horse built for consistency, but when the conditions align—Cork, dry ground, the right race—it remains capable of winning.
