Hasten Slowly

The most interesting thing about Hasten Slowly is what happens when you take it to Tramore, the tight, seaside track on the south coast of Ireland. There, the record reads 2 wins from just 4 races — meaning it has won half the time it has shown up. That is a genuinely remarkable number. Most horses never find a track that suits them so well, and when one does, it tends to be more than coincidence. The most recent of those Tramore wins came on 14 August 2025, just ten months ago, so the memory is fresh. Add to that a preference for slightly soft ground — 2 wins from 9 races on that surface, or roughly 1 in every 4 — and you start to build a picture of a horse that knows exactly when and where it wants to perform.

The recent form tells a different story, though. Six races back, Hasten Slowly has not troubled the judge, with finishes of tenth, eighth, a couple of pulled-up efforts, seventh, and eighth. That is a run without a win stretching back through the autumn and into this year. The horse raced just yesterday, which confirms it is still very much in active training rather than winding down. Regular partner Alex Harvey has won 2 of their 7 races together — roughly 1 in every 3.5 rides — a decent relationship that suggests the team know what they are doing when the pairing works.

The career first clicked at Leopardstown back in August 2022, which gives Hasten Slowly a solid few years at this level. The question now is whether a return to Tramore on a wet day might be the thing to shake the horse out of its current lean spell.
