Harswell River

That win at Redcar in September 2025 remains the high point of its career so far, and at ten months ago now, it feels like a milestone the horse hasn't been able to build on. The last six races tell a story of a horse that is competitive — a second, a third, another second in there — but one that keeps finding something stronger at the finish. A seventh in the mix shows it can have an off day too. The pattern is familiar to anyone who follows horses at this level: good enough to be placed, not yet good enough to win again.

Roger Fell trains Harswell River out of Nawton in North Yorkshire, a yard that has sent out 25 winners this season, so there is clearly plenty going right at home. Jockey Mark Winn takes the ride most often, and their partnership — one win from six races together, which works out at roughly one in every six — mirrors the horse's overall profile: capable, without yet being clinical.

At distances between seven furlongs and a mile, Harswell River has won one from ten races at those trips, a 10% conversion rate that makes it the horse's best territory by some margin. It competes mainly at Class 6, the entry-level tier of British racing, where it has won one from nine at that grade. That is a modest record, but the string of placed efforts shows it belongs in these races — it just needs the planets to align. Raced just yesterday, Harswell River is clearly in the thick of a busy campaign, and at three years old, there is still time for another day like Redcar to come around.
