Harswell River

The one bright spot came at Redcar on 24 September 2025, when Harswell River finally got off the mark. Redcar is a flat, fair track on the North Yorkshire coast, and winning there over seven furlongs to a mile — the horse's preferred distance — suggests there is at least something to work with when conditions and trip align. Over that range, Harswell River has won 1 race from 7, a win rate of 14%, which is comfortably its best record at any distance. That is nearly twice the rate it achieves across its career overall.

The horse competes mainly at Class 6, which is the entry level of British racing. One win from nine races at that level — roughly 1 in every 9 — tells you this is a horse that has had chances and not always taken them. That said, five places from 16 races means Harswell River is not disgracing itself; it keeps turning up in the frame without quite getting to the front. Trainer Roger Fell, whose yard in Nawton, North Yorkshire, has sent out 23 winners already this season, clearly sees enough to keep the horse in training and racing regularly. That in itself is a form of confidence. Whether Harswell River can find a repeat of that Redcar moment — now seven months ago and counting — is the question the yard will be working to answer.
