Harmonics

The really telling detail is how recently it has raced. Harmonics was out just a day ago, which means the yard believes it is ready to race again quickly. Its last six outings tell the story of a horse still searching for consistency: two wins sandwiched between a third, a fifth, an eighth, and another fifth. That eighth-place finish in particular suggests it can have an off day, but the two wins in that stretch — most recently at Doncaster in early June — show it is capable of putting in a proper performance when everything clicks.

Based at Newmarket under the care of John and Thady Gosden, Harmonics is in one of the most respected yards in British racing. The Gosdens have sent out 140 winners already this season, so the horse is being trained alongside quality operators. That Harmonics won at both Southwell and Doncaster early in its career suggests it could have preferences, though four months have now passed since its last victory, which is a long spell without a win at this level. Whether it is a horse returning to form or one that needs to prove it can be more than an occasional scorer will become clear soon enough — and given it is racing every few days, the yard is clearly keen to find out.
