Mullins suggested the horse had simply improved on nicer, faster ground—a pointer that Harbour Highway may have genuine preferences about the conditions he races in.

The horse is still active. With the yard having sent out 31 winners this season under Mullins's eye at Bagenalstown, there remains clearly a working belief that Harbour Highway has something left to offer. The trainer was talking, as recently as late November, about future entries and staying hurdles as a likely direction. Whether Harbour Highway can reverse his recent run and win again depends partly on whether those ground conditions come up in his favour.
