Trained by the father-and-son team of John and Sean Quinn, based in Norton, North Yorkshire, Hansteen is part of a yard that clearly knows how to win races. Forty-two winners in a single season is a serious number — that is a busy, productive operation with plenty of ammunition. The fact that Hansteen hasn't added to that tally yet is not necessarily a reflection on the yard's ability, more likely a sign that this particular horse is still finding its feet. Young horses can take time to work out what racing is all about, and three races at age three is still a relatively small sample.
Hansteen raced just yesterday, so this is a horse in active training and right in the middle of its campaign. Whether the Quinn team keep patient and give it more time to develop, or find a softer opportunity to get off the mark, will be worth watching. For now, Hansteen is a horse with no wins and no places from three attempts — but housed in a stable that has the tools to turn things around.
