Distance matters too. Over the middle to longer trips — between a mile and six furlongs and two miles — Gyenyame has a win rate closer to one in three (1 win from 3 races), a figure that stands out. Most of its racing, though, comes in Class 3 company, where it has won just once from 11 attempts (9%), suggesting it often faces stiffer opposition than it can handle. The horse's last victory came at Exeter on 18 November 2024, which is almost two years ago now, and its recent form has been grim: two second-place finishes sandwiching two more top-3 finishes, but no wins in the last six outings.

Joe Tizzard's Dorset yard trains Gyenyame, and the team will know better than anyone that this horse performs best when it gets normal ground and a trip to suit. Brendan Powell, who rides it most often, has partnered Gyenyame in 23 races but won just twice together (9%), so there is no obvious chemistry there either. At eight years old, Gyenyame remains active, but with nearly two years between wins, it has become a horse that looks for very specific conditions to strike. When those conditions align — normal ground, a fair distance, and perhaps a Class 3 race where it is not badly outclassed — Gyenyame can still deliver. Until then, it will keep chasing that next win.
