She races best at distances between five and six and a half furlongs, where she has won one from ten attempts. That ten per cent win rate is exactly what you might expect from a horse with her overall record, but it hints at something: put her over the right trip at the right track, and she is capable of winning again. At Class 3 level—a middle tier of competitive racing—she has won once from five races, a twenty per cent rate that shows she belongs in that grade. Clifford Lee, her most frequent rider, has partnered her five times and won on one of those occasions, which works out to a one-in-five success rate together.

Joseph Patrick O'Brien's yard at Owning Hill in Co Kilkenny has been prolific this season, sending out 160 winners, but Greydreambeliever remains something of a work in progress. The trainer believes she has room to develop and suggested earlier this year that she could be capable of winning off her mark soon. She raced just a day ago, so she is actively campaigned and clearly being given opportunities to break her long drought. For a horse with her record, patience and the right conditions matter far more than expectation.
