That one win came at York on 27 July 2024, which is worth noting. York is one of the finest tracks in Britain, and winning there — even once — marks a horse out as having genuine ability. The problem is that result now sits 20 months in the past, and six races since then have produced nothing better than a third place. The recent form figures of 3-3-5-4-12-4 suggest a horse that rattles around the top half of the field without quite finding the extra gear needed to win. The run where it finished 12th is the only real blemish — everything else hints at a horse running honestly without quite delivering.

Now add the five-month absence into the mix. Greydreambeliever hasn't raced in roughly 176 days, which is a significant break for a three-year-old still learning the job. That can go either way — horses can come back refreshed and sharper, or they can need a run or two to rediscover their rhythm. It is the single biggest unknown heading into its return.

The trainer is K R Burke, based in Coverham, North Yorkshire, and the yard has been in outstanding form — 139 winners already this season, which is a serious number by any measure. Burke is known for placing horses carefully and getting the best out of those that could easily be overlooked. When jockey Clifford Lee takes the ride, as he has five times before, the pair have won together once — a rate of 1 in every 5 races, which is actually a strong return given how rarely Greydreambeliever wins overall.

At Class 3 level — the sort of races just below the top tier — this horse has won 1 from 5, again that 1-in-5 figure. That is a respectable record at a competitive level, and it suggests the horse belongs there rather than being outclassed. Whether a fresh and well-trained Greydreambeliever can finally add a second win to its name is the question worth watching.
