Green Asset

The recent run of form tells a familiar story. Over the last six races, Green Asset has finished second, fifth, third, fourth, fifth, and third — a pattern of near-misses and mid-pack finishes that will be both encouraging and frustrating in equal measure for anyone following the horse. That second place is the closest it has come, and with a race just yesterday, it is clearly in good health and being kept busy.

Mickey Bowen trains the horse out of Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, and his yard has been in fine form this season — 47 winners is a serious tally and marks Bowen out as a trainer who genuinely knows how to get horses ready to win. That makes Green Asset something of an anomaly in the string, a horse that keeps running without converting. At Class 4 level — the middle tier of British racing, not the very top but not the bottom either — it has run three times and drawn a blank in all three. That is the level where Green Asset needs to prove itself before anyone starts thinking about stepping it up.

The honest assessment is that this is a horse still looking for its moment. It is not disgracing itself, and the trainer clearly believes in keeping it active. But 12 races without a win, in a yard that sends out winners at a healthy rate, means the clock is gradually ticking. The next few runs will matter.
