What makes Golspie interesting is not the numbers but the conditions attached to them. When Morris spoke about the horse back in 2023, he was candid: Golspie wants soft, wet ground. That first career win, on a rainy April day at Newbury in 2023, came on exactly that kind of surface. A subsequent run at Newmarket on fast, dry ground went nowhere, and Morris drew the obvious conclusion. This is a horse with a very specific requirement, and when the weather does not cooperate, neither does Golspie.

That context matters when you look at the recent form. Six races without a win, with placings of fourth, third, fourth, fourth, second and third in the most recent six runs — the horse keeps finishing in the frame, kept knocking on the door, but has not won since December 2025 at Newcastle. Six months is a long wait, and at Class 5 level with a win rate of just 5% at that grade — one win from 21 races — patience is the defining virtue of anyone who follows this horse.

David Nolan has ridden Golspie ten times and won once, a 10% win rate that actually sits above the horse's overall average, suggesting the partnership works reasonably well when conditions align. Morris's yard has sent out 18 winners this season, so the operation is ticking along, and Golspie raced just yesterday, meaning it is very much part of the current plans.
