Yet there are threads worth following. God Knows wins roughly one in every six races when racing on normal ground, a marked improvement on her overall form, and she shows genuine preference for distances between seven furlongs and a mile — the sweet spot where she has managed one win from four attempts. Her most recent six races tell a familiar story: an eighteenth-place finish most recently, then a tenth, a seventh, and nothing to write home about before that. These are not the runs of a horse finding her feet or building momentum. Still, P Sweeney's yard at Letterkenny in County Donegal has been productive this season, and Seamie Heffernan, his most frequent partner, has ridden him once with a win — a 12% win rate that at least hints at better days when everything aligns.

The real question for God Knows now is whether her best is still to come or has already passed. At seven, she is not elderly in racing terms, but fourteen months without a win is a long walk in the wilderness. If there is hope, it lies in those ground preferences and the middle-distance sweet spot. A return to normal conditions over the right distance might just wake her up. For now, though, God Knows remains a horse that shows up, runs, and occasionally finds the winner's enclosure — but rarely often enough to justify much faith.
