Glorious Kitty

The recent form makes for interesting reading, if not entirely comfortable viewing. Of the last six runs, Glorious Kitty has finished second three times — which means the horse knows where the line is, it just keeps finding one too good on the day. A ninth in the middle of that sequence is the one blip, but sandwiching it with two seconds on either side suggests this is a horse that competes with reasonable consistency rather than one that blows hot and cold. Racing just yesterday, Glorious Kitty is clearly kept busy and in good enough shape to keep running.

Billy Garritty has been in the saddle for seven of those 14 races and is yet to ride the horse to a win, making them an unlikely but persistent partnership. The yard behind the operation — Michael and David Easterby, based at Sheriff Hutton in North Yorkshire — has had a productive season, sending out 51 winners, so it is not as though the team lacks for success elsewhere. Glorious Kitty just happens to be the one that keeps making them wait.

At Class 5, Glorious Kitty is already competing at the lower end of the racing ladder — these are not the glamour events, but they are where plenty of horses find their moment. Five races at that level without a win suggests the moment has not come yet, but the cluster of second-place finishes hints that it might not be far away either. Whether the horse ever converts one of those placings into an actual victory is the question that keeps bringing the yard — the team, the trainer, the jockey — back to the track. At four years old, there is still time.
