Glorious Kitty

Trained by the father-and-son partnership of Michael and David Easterby at their yard in Sheriff Hutton, North Yorkshire, Glorious Kitty is part of a setup that has sent out 55 winners already this season — so she is operating in a busy, confident stable rather than a quiet backwater. She is only four years old, which means there is still room for improvement and plenty of racing ahead.

Her two wins have both come in the north of England, first at Ayr in May and then at Carlisle just nine days later — a quick turnaround that clearly suited her. She races best over seven furlongs to a mile, winning 1 from 4 at those distances (25%, or one in every four), which is a genuinely solid return and suggests that when conditions line up — right track, right trip — she is a horse to take seriously. Interestingly, she has never won at Class 5, the level she most frequently runs at, going 0 from 5 at that grade. Her wins have come elsewhere, which hints she may actually be better suited when pitched into slightly different company or conditions.

The one slightly awkward figure involves her regular jockey Billy Garritty, who has ridden her eight times without getting her head in front. That is not necessarily a criticism of either horse or rider — partnerships can take time, and Garritty has clearly been aboard for much of the learning curve. But it is worth noting that her two wins came in the middle of that run, so the relationship has at least produced placed efforts if not the victories the team will be hoping for. Raced just yesterday and clearly in the thick of her season, Glorious Kitty is a horse with momentum. If she finds the right race over a mile on a decent surface, another win is very much on the cards.
