The recent form makes for tough reading. Looking at the last six races, the best finish recorded is a ninth, with results of 11th, 12th, and 13th filling in the rest of the picture. Those are not near-misses. These are performances well back in the field, suggesting Glenriver is struggling to compete at whatever level it is being asked to race at. Dashes in the form line typically indicate races where the horse was pulled up or unseated — so on at least two occasions in that recent run, it did not even complete the course.
Regular jockey P J O'Hanlon has been aboard for six of those 11 races and is yet to taste success on the horse either, making it an 0-from-6 partnership with no wins to show between them. That is not necessarily a criticism of the rider — the horse simply has not shown the ability to get competitive. Trainer Shane Crawley's yard has sent out two winners this season, so there is some form in the stable, but Glenriver has not been part of that story. The horse raced just yesterday, so the yard are clearly persisting with it and keeping it active, which at least speaks to its soundness and willingness to turn up. Whether it can translate that into a result remains the open question — and after 11 races, it is a question that is getting harder to answer optimistically.
