Glamazon

Her recent form figures — 4, 5, 11, 4, 7, 4 — tell an interesting story. She has been placing consistently in the top half of fields on several occasions, and that run of three fourth-place finishes suggests she is knocking on the door without quite being able to kick it open. The 11th is the obvious blot, but every horse has an off day. She raced just yesterday, which shows the team is keeping her busy and looking for the right opportunity.

Shane Foley has been her regular jockey, partnering her in 6 of those 10 races without a win between them. That is not necessarily a negative — the pair simply haven't found the right race yet. What does inspire confidence is the stable behind her. Trained by Mrs John Harrington at Moone in Co Kildare, Glamazon is in one of Ireland's sharper yards — a team that has sent out 51 winners already this season. That is a serious number, and it means when Mrs Harrington keeps running a horse, it is usually because she sees something worth pursuing. Horses do not stay in active training at a successful yard by accident.

Glamazon has not won yet, but she is young, she is racing regularly, and she is sitting in a yard that clearly knows how to get horses into the winner's enclosure. The question is simply whether the right race comes along before the season is out.
