Give Him A Chance

His form has been patchy of late. In his last six outings he has managed just one win, coming at Naas in late February — seven months ago now — before delivering finishes of fourth, fifth, seventh, ninth and seventh again. The gap since that last success is beginning to stretch, and recent runs suggest he is finding it harder to break through. He raced just a day ago, so the yard are clearly keen to keep him active and hunting for another opportunity.

What stands out is how much he thrives on normal ground. Give Him A Chance has won two of his three races on standard conditions, a win rate of two in three that towers above his overall average. That is a meaningful clue for the future: stick him on fast, dry ground and his chances improve markedly. He has found a trusted partner in jockey Tiernan Power Roche, who has partnered him in ten races and won twice together — a 20 percent win rate that slightly edges his overall figures. P J Rothwell's yard at Tinahely, in County Wicklow, has sent out 35 winners this season, so there is form and momentum in that corner. Give Him A Chance may not be about to light up the racing calendar, but he remains the sort of honest operator capable of picking up races if conditions align and luck breaks his way.
