The most interesting thread running through Gazelle d'Or's record is what happens when conditions turn soft underfoot. On wet or muddy ground, she has won 3 of just 4 races — a 75% win rate that is almost startling. Most horses show a mild preference for one surface or another; that kind of dominance in specific conditions is something else entirely. It means that when the forecast is bad, Gazelle d'Or becomes a very different proposition on a racecard.
She is also a genuine course specialist at The Curragh, the famous flat racing headquarters in County Kildare where her trainer M C Grassick is based. Three wins from 7 races there is a remarkable return for any horse — that's nearly 1 in every 2 races at that track — and her most recent win came at The Curragh on 27 September 2025. The yard has sent out 6 winners this season, so the operation is ticking along well.
Recent form tells a mixed story — a win, two placed efforts, and a couple of disappointing runs in between — but horses are not machines, and the current sequence of 2-2-12-7-12-1 (reading from most recent backwards) shows a horse capable of hitting the frame when things fall right. It is also worth noting that regular jockey Danny Sheehy has yet to get the best out of her in 7 rides together, which is a curiosity worth watching. Gazelle d'Or raced just one day ago, so she is clearly in a busy patch of the season. Whether soft ground comes again soon may well be the deciding factor in when we next see her at her brilliant best.
