Gangster Granny

What she does have is a very clear preference for conditions. On normal ground — not too wet, not too dry — she has won 3 of just 7 races, which is a remarkable 43% win rate. That's nearly 1 in every 2 races when the ground suits her, compared to nothing when conditions go against her. She also tends to run her best races over longer distances, between a mile and six furlongs and two miles, where she's recorded 2 of her 3 career wins from 12 attempts. That's 1 in every 6 races at those trips — decent enough — but when you combine her preferred distance with her preferred ground, you start to see a horse that's genuinely dangerous in the right circumstances.

Her recent form tells an interesting story too. Looking at her last six races from most recent backwards, she's posted a win, a third place, and has been less involved in the others — but the trajectory is pointing upward. That win came at Downpatrick just two weeks ago, on 8 May 2026, and she raced again only yesterday, so she's clearly being kept busy while she's in form. Her first career win came at Limerick back in June 2024, and the gap between that and last month's success at Downpatrick hints at a horse who has taken time to mature and find her feet.

One curiosity worth noting: her most regular partner has been jockey Shane Foley, who has ridden her nine times without a win between them. All three of her victories have come with someone else in the saddle. Whether that's coincidence or something more telling is hard to say, but it's the kind of detail that makes Gangster Granny worth watching when the ground comes up right and a different jockey takes the ride.
