Gambie Tiep

What little promise Gambie Tiep showed has faded badly. The horse won its first race at Uttoxeter in July 2023 and managed three more wins in the months that followed, establishing a win rate of roughly 1 in every 5 races at the lower Class 5 level (4 wins from 21 races). That is respectable form for a horse operating at that grade. More intriguingly, Gambie Tiep is a genuine lover of wet or muddy ground, winning 2 of 5 races (40%) in those conditions—the kind of quirk that can keep a horse in work if a race comes up with the right weather. But that edge has not mattered. The horse has failed to build on it and seems to have drifted out of the yard's plans entirely. Ben Pauling's Gloucestershire stable continues to prosper with 86 winners this season, but Gambie Tiep is not part of that picture. James Best, the horse's most regular jockey, has never managed a win from eight rides aboard. Whether the horse returns to racing, and whether it can find its way back to the winner's enclosure if it does, remains to be seen. For now, Gambie Tiep is a horse out of sight and out of form.
