That runner-up result does at least suggest Galley Point is capable of competing when things fall right. The recent form figures — running eighth, then seventh, then second, fourth, and ninth before its most recent outing yesterday — tell a slightly inconsistent story. The second place is a flash of promise in an otherwise quiet sequence, and it shows the horse can get involved at the business end of a race under the right conditions.

Trainer T J O'Mara has sent out two winners from the yard this season, which is a modest tally but not unusual for a smaller operation still building momentum. Galley Point raced just yesterday, so it is very much in the thick of its campaign right now. Whether another crack at a win is around the corner remains to be seen, but at four years old, there is still time for things to click.
