Trained by J S Bolger at his yard in Coolcullen, Co Carlow, Gaelic Drills is in capable hands. Bolger is one of the most experienced and respected trainers in Irish racing, and his operation has already sent out eight winners this season — so this is not a yard that lacks for talent or know-how. The fact that Gaelic Drills has not won from five races is not a crisis; plenty of horses take time to mature, and a trainer of Bolger's calibre will know exactly what he has on his hands.
What is worth watching is the trajectory. The two dashes in the recent form — indicating races where no finishing position was recorded, likely due to being pulled up or not completing — are the one note of concern. But the horse raced just yesterday and remains active, which tells you the team still believes there is a race to be won here. At three years old, Gaelic Drills has time on its side, and first-time winners at this stage of a season are far from unusual.
