Lingfield is a tricky, tight-turning track with an artificial surface that suits certain horses down to the ground and leaves others completely cold. Fulford Cross clearly falls into the first camp, and if you were looking for a reason to stay interested, that is it. The question is always whether a horse can repeat what it did somewhere it clearly likes.

The recent form makes for mixed reading. A win and a third-place finish were followed by three disappointing runs — finishing seventh and eighth before a fifth-place effort most recently. That kind of sequence, promising then patchy, is typical of a horse competing at the lower end of the sport.
