What does give the situation some interest is the yard behind the horse. Dan Skelton, based in Alcester in Warwickshire, has sent out 185 winners already this season — a remarkable volume that puts him among the most productive trainers in Britain. When a trainer is winning at that rate, even the horses without a victory to their name are worth keeping an eye on. Skelton clearly knows how to place a horse and find the right opportunity, and Frost Moon, having raced just twice, still has plenty of room to develop.

Having last raced today, Frost Moon is very much a work in progress. Two runs is barely enough to know what a horse is, let alone what it might become. The form so far — finishing mid-pack at best — suggests it has not found its groove yet, but with a trainer firing in winners at this kind of pace, the next chapter could read rather differently.
