Fravanco

Where Fravanco does find its best form is over a mile and three to a mile and four furlongs, the kind of stamina test that suits a horse who keeps grinding rather than quickening. At those distances, it has won 2 of its 15 races — 13%, or roughly 1 in every 7-and-a-half — which is meaningfully better than its overall record and tells you something about how it should ideally be placed. It almost always competes at Class 6, the entry-level tier of British racing, and has won 2 of its 22 races at that level. Not spectacular, but consistent enough to keep the team at Michael Madgwick's yard in Denmead, Hampshire motivated to keep running it.

The most recent win came at Kempton Park on 20 September 2024 — nearly 21 months ago now — which is a long time between victories for any horse. Fravanco's last six runs read 7, a non-completion, 5, 8, 2, 4 (most recent last), and a fourth place just a day ago shows it is very much still active and competitive. A second is in there too, which at least suggests the ability hasn't entirely faded. George Rooke, who rides Fravanco more than anyone else, has won once together from eight attempts — a 12% win rate, or 1 in 8, which is actually above the horse's overall average and suggests the partnership works reasonably well when conditions fall right.

Madgwick's yard has sent out just one winner this season, so this isn't a stable firing on all cylinders at the moment. For Fravanco, the task is a simple one: find the right race at the right distance, and hope that a first win in nearly two years isn't too far away.
