The real story is what happened recently. After a rough spell where Fr Gilligansvoyge finished sixth, seventh, and thirteenth across three outings, the horse found the winner's circle again at Kilbeggan on 21 August 2026, just eight weeks ago. That breakthrough came at exactly the right time for a horse of this age and record, and suggests there is still something left in the tank. Since then, the form has been mixed: a second-place finish followed by a sixth and then a seventh, which is the kind of inconsistency you expect from an older horse on a long campaign. Yet the horse was back out racing just a day ago, which says the trainer still sees value in running.

Jake Coen, who has been the regular jockey, has had no luck aboard this one — eight races together without a win — which is frustrating for both man and horse. But Fr Gilligansvoyge's last win came with other support in the saddle, which suggests the horse does still have winning chances if conditions align. For a 13-year-old with a modest win rate, staying sound enough to race is itself an achievement, and that recent victory at Kilbeggan proves there is still a race or two left in this old campaigner.
