That one win did eventually come, though, and it arrived at Stratford-on-Avon in May 2025 — a result that will have meant a great deal to trainer Ella Pickard and her yard in Timberscombe. Pickard's operation has sent out five winners this season, so Fox Wallace's contribution counts. The horse typically races at Class 5, which is the entry level of British racing — races designed to give horses like this one a realistic chance of winning. Even there, the record reads one win from 15 races at that level, or about 1 in every 15 outings. It's competitive enough to place occasionally, but getting to the front has proven genuinely difficult.

The most regular partnership in the saddle has been with jockey Ben Godfrey, who has ridden Fox Wallace in 13 of its 24 races. Together they've won once — that Stratford success — which works out at roughly 1 in every 13 rides together, or an 8% win rate. That's actually a touch better than the horse's overall record, which suggests the combination works as well as anything has for this horse. Recent form tells a more cautious story: the last six races have produced a fifth, a seventh, and a couple of runs where Fox Wallace didn't finish in the frame at all.

What makes Fox Wallace mildly interesting right now is timing. The horse raced just yesterday and is clearly in active training, still being pointed at races at eight years old. That age, combined with a career that has largely been defined by near-misses and mid-pack finishes, suggests a horse that keeps the yard hopeful without quite delivering. The Stratford win is now 14 months in the rearview mirror. Whether there's another one hiding somewhere in Fox Wallace's legs is the question Ella Pickard's yard is presumably still trying to answer.
