Four Blondes

Her trainer, Ross O'Sullivan, is convinced there is more to come. After she was narrowly beaten at Gowran Park recently, O'Sullivan identified the problem: she had raced too keenly early and spent her energy when she should have been saving it. He spotted a fillies' race at Fairyhouse over seven furlongs as an opportunity to get her back on track at the track where she won, and on ground conditions that would suit her better. When she did win there, O'Sullivan noted that she has bred sensibly—by the Group 1 sire Gleneagles out of a mare who won six times—and suggested she could be progressive, though he also noted she is a horse with attitude, a little "saucy" with an unusual head carriage. With jockey Shane Foley aboard for six of her races, including her sole win, there is at least a familiar partnership in place. Four Blondes is clearly a horse capable of being competitive on her day; the question is whether her yard can piece together the formula—the right trip, the right ground, the right pace—often enough to turn occasional winning into a pattern.
