Forest Berry

What stands out is that Forest Berry clearly has a preferred distance. Over a mile and one to a mile and two furlongs, the horse has won one of three races, a 33 percent win rate at that trip. That is a meaningful edge, the kind of detail that matters when a trainer is plotting which races to target. Sir Mark Prescott's Newmarket yard, which has sent out 47 winners already this season, clearly sees something in the horse. Prescott is one of the shrewdest trainers in Britain, and the fact she has kept running Forest Berry regularly—nine races in what must be a compressed timeframe for a two-year-old—suggests she believes the horse will continue to develop and win more races.

The recent form does show the horse is still inconsistent. Three fourth places in the last six runs is concerning, but it also picked up two wins and two thirds in the same stretch, which keeps alive the possibility of another winning spell. At two years old, with a full season ahead, Forest Berry has time to work out where it truly belongs in the racing pyramid.
