The recent form makes for honest reading. In its last six races, Fletcher has finished 10th, 4th, 7th, 6th, 7th, and 3rd — reading from oldest to most recent, there is a shape there that a supporter might cling to. That third place is the closest it has come, and coming just one day ago it at least suggests the horse is in the yard's thinking and being kept busy. Whether the improved placing signals a turning point or simply a better day at the office remains to be seen.
Fletcher is trained by Jim Boyle at Epsom in Surrey, a yard that has sent out 25 winners so far this season, which shows there is no shortage of ability on the training side. When a trainer is winning at that volume, a horse like Fletcher — still searching for its first victory at Class 4 level, which is the fourth tier of British racing — stands out as one of the projects still in progress. Boyle clearly knows how to get horses winning, which at least gives Fletcher a reasonable chance of figuring it out eventually.
At three years old, time is not yet the enemy. Many horses take a while to find their rhythm, and a first win can sometimes change everything — confidence, style, the whole picture. For now, Fletcher remains one to watch with cautious optimism rather than expectation.
