Flann Sunna

The horse has won at two of Britain's best tracks. The first victory came at Windsor on 22 June, which announced Flann Sunna's arrival as a prospect worth watching. But the real statement came at Ascot on 10 July, one of the sport's most famous racecourses. That win proved the Windsor success was no fluke. Since then, though, things have quietened down. In the last four races Flann Sunna has finished third, fifth, first, and first — so two wins from those four outings, but with some inconsistency mixed in. The form is recent, too: the horse raced just a day ago, so this is a young animal still being tested regularly and still learning its trade.

Flann Sunna is trained by Simon and Ed Crisford at their Newmarket yard in Suffolk, one of the sport's most successful operations. The Crisfords have sent out 78 winners already this season, which tells you they have the skill and resources to develop a young horse properly. For a two-year-old with winning form at Ascot and Windsor, that kind of training setup makes all the difference. The next few months will be telling — whether Flann Sunna can turn early promise into consistency, and whether those first two wins mark the start of something significant or a bright start that fades.
