Fizzle Rock

That single victory came at Sligo on 10 August 2023, and it remains the high point of the horse's career. The frustrating part is that it has not won since — a drought now stretching back 38 months. In its last six races, Fizzle Rock has shown flashes of competence, notching three third-place finishes and two fourths, but no wins. It raced just a day ago, so it remains an active runner, though at nine years old it is in the later phase of its career.

Carl Millar has been the horse's regular partner, riding it seven times and winning once — a 14 per cent win rate that is slightly better than the horse's overall record but still reflects how selective the winners have been. For a horse that finishes placed so often, Fizzle Rock remains one of those frustratingly consistent types that makes up the backbone of racing: reliable enough to run, but not quite quick enough to win very often.
