Back in August 2025, something clicked. Fire Coral won at Downpatrick on the 10th of August, then followed it up at Down Royal just 19 days later — two wins in the space of three weeks from a horse that had managed just one in its entire career to that point. That kind of sudden improvement in a 7-year-old is unusual, and it clearly wasn't a fluke. The recent form reads 3-blank-5-1-1-4, which means two wins and a third in the last six races — a return of 2 from 6, or 33%, compared to a career average of 6%. That is a horse running the best races of its life.

What is slightly curious is the record alongside regular jockey Philip Donovan. The pair have teamed up 12 times without a winner — 0 from 12 — yet those August victories presumably came with someone else in the saddle, which raises an interesting question about whether the partnership is the right one going forward. The trainer, S Curling, operates out of Cashel in County Tipperary and has sent out 14 winners this season, so this is a yard in decent form. Fire Coral raced just one day ago, meaning it is currently in the thick of a busy campaign.

The big picture here is a horse that spent years as a journeyman and has suddenly found its feet. Whether that form holds or fades is the question — but for now, Fire Coral is one of the more intriguing profiles in the yard, and a horse whose next run is well worth watching.
