Filibustering

The two wins tell an interesting story on their own. The first came at Redcar in May 2024, and the second arrived at Kelso in March 2025 — two very different tracks, nearly ten months apart, which suggests Filibustering finds its moments rather than manufacturing them regularly. That Kelso win is now over a year old, and in the meantime the horse has been competing at Class 4 level, which sits in the middle tier of British racing. What's quietly damning is that across eight races at that level, the win count stands at zero. It has been placed, it has been competitive, but it hasn't been able to convert when the opportunity is there.

Harry Derham trains Filibustering out of Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, and the yard is clearly in good health — 59 winners already this season is a strong return that puts Derham firmly among the active and productive trainers operating right now. When David Allan is in the saddle, the pair have clicked once from five rides together, a win rate of 1 in 5, which is actually considerably better than Filibustering's overall record suggests. The horse raced just yesterday, so it's in the thick of a busy campaign.

The portrait that emerges is of a horse that fills a place-cheque with some regularity but hasn't quite unlocked whatever it needs to win consistently. At five years old, it isn't young anymore, and the clock is ticking on whether those moments of promise get turned into wins. For now, Filibustering is the type of horse a racing fan learns not to back blindly — but also not to write off entirely.
