That breakthrough came at Kilbeggan on 15 May 2026, just two weeks ago, and it was worth the wait. Kilbeggan is a tight, turning track in the Irish midlands that tends to suit horses who are switched-on and handy rather than those who need a long straight to wind up — so the fact that Figero won there suggests he has a bit of tactical intelligence about him. He came into that race off the back of three consecutive finishes outside the top ten, which makes the win all the more striking. Sometimes a horse just needs everything to fall right on the right day, and that appears to be exactly what happened.
He runs out of the Thomas Mullins yard in Goresbridge, Co Kilkenny, a training base that has sent out two winners so far this season. Mullins is a quieter name than some of the big Irish operations, which makes it all the more interesting to watch how a horse like Figero develops from here. With only five races under his belt and a win already on the board, there is still plenty of the story left to write — and given he raced just one day ago, the yard are clearly keeping him busy. Whether the Kilbeggan win was a sign of things to come or a moment to be savoured on its own terms, only the next few runs will tell.
