Fierce

Midgley, who trains from Westow in North Yorkshire, bought Fierce cheaply at a horses in training sale, spotting potential where others saw risk. The horse had run poorly in a seller before the auction, but Midgley's team identified a physical issue — a soft palate problem — and fixed it. The improvement was immediate: Fierce won at Pontefract in June 2025 and showed he belonged in competitive company. At Class 4 level, however, the horse is out of depth. He has raced there 14 times without a win, which tells you something about where his ceiling sits.

His recent form is a dry spell. In his last six races, he has finished second twice, third twice, sixth once, and seventh once — the sort of consistent losing run that tests a horse's future in the game. Tom Queally has been his regular jockey, winning 2 of their 14 races together. Still, Fierce remains active and racing, a sign that his trainer believes something is still there. For a horse at this level, that kind of faith matters.
