Ferrystream

Trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam at her yard in Dalham, Suffolk, Ferrystream is part of an operation clearly firing on all cylinders right now. Twenty-four winners sent out this season is a serious tally, and a debut winner adds another tick to what is shaping up to be a productive year for the stable. Chapple-Hyam has a reputation for producing well-prepared young horses, and Ferrystream looks every bit that.

It is worth keeping some perspective — one race tells you only so much. But a horse that wins on debut has already done something that the majority of racehorses never manage on their first appearance. The question now is where Ferrystream goes next, and whether that Windsor performance was a sign of things to come or simply a good day at the office. Given how recently it raced, that answer should not be too long in coming.
