Fenlander

The horse shows clear preferences. On fast, dry ground, it wins about 1 in 4 races (2 wins from 9), which is the kind of form that catches trainers' eyes. More striking is its Leicester record: the horse has won twice there from seven visits, making it a genuine specialist at that track. Conversely, Fenlander struggles badly when stepped up to Class 5 company, winning none of its seven attempts at that level—a sign the horse belongs in the softer races below. Trainer Olly Williams, based at Market Rasen in Lincolnshire, has had a lean season overall with just one other winner sent out.

The recent form is disappointing. After finishing second and third in quick succession in early runs, Fenlander has tailed off, with last week's sixth-place finish the worst of a drab sequence. The horse last won at Nottingham on 25 June, a long drought for a creature that races regularly. Fenlander clearly wants dry ground and small fields where its jumping is less tested. It remains active and was out just days ago, suggesting the yard is hunting for a race it can win—probably another Class 4 or below on a quick track, and ideally back at Leicester where it has proven it belongs.
