Fear And Fast

What makes the recent form particularly difficult to put a positive spin on is that Fear And Fast has been finishing mid-pack or worse across the last six races — positions of seventh, ninth, eighth, sixth, fifth, and seventh in the most recent run yesterday. The fifth place is the only glimmer in that sequence, but the general trend is of a horse that is competing without threatening to win. At Class 6 — the lowest tier of British racing — the horse has gone zero from eight attempts. Class 6 is where horses come to win races, not to build character, so being winless at that level over eight tries is a real concern.

That said, Jim Goldie is no struggling operation. His yard has sent out 88 winners this season, which speaks to a trainer who clearly knows how to get horses winning. The fact that Fear And Fast remains in training and raced as recently as yesterday suggests Goldie still believes there is a race to be won somewhere. Whether Fear And Fast can find it remains the open question — but with 21 races on the clock and the win column still empty, the clock is ticking.
