That is a genuine strength, and it suggests Makin's yard has identified the sweet spot for this horse. When stretched to that trip, he runs with purpose. By contrast, his recent form reads 1-9-4-8-3-11 across his last six outings — a mixed bag that includes a ninth place and an eleventh, though there are also some respectable placed efforts in there. The ninth-place finish came just last time out, but he bounced back immediately to break his duck at Carlisle this week, so he is clearly not discouraged.

One win from nine races is a modest return, and Farabove The Limit is very much a work in progress. But he is still learning his trade at three years old, and the fact that his trainer has sent out nine winners already this season shows the yard knows how to get horses to the line. The breakthrough at Carlisle this week, combined with that proven affinity for longer distances, gives the horse something to build on. If Makin can keep him in races that suit his profile — that middle distance, on ground and track where he has already shown promise — Farabove The Limit may yet develop into something more than a once-in-nine proposition.
