The recent run of form is worth unpicking. Reading from most recent backwards — 12th, 6th, 10th, 7th, 3rd, 2nd — there is a clear pattern of gradual decline. Those back-to-back placed efforts (a second and a third) suggested real promise at the time, but since then the performances have drifted badly, culminating in a 12th-place finish. That trajectory is concerning rather than encouraging.
Donagh O'Connor has been the regular rider, partnering Faire La Nouba in 5 of those 14 races without a win to show for it. That is not necessarily O'Connor's fault — the horse simply has not found a way to win — but it does mean the combination carries no momentum into whatever comes next.
Adding to the uncertainty is a break of roughly four months since the last run. Horses returning from a layoff can go one of two ways: freshened up and back to their best, or ring-rusty and in need of a race to find their rhythm. Given that the form before the break was already going in the wrong direction, there is no obvious reason to expect an immediate turnaround.
None of this means Faire La Nouba is without merit — two placed finishes in 14 races shows the ability to compete, and at three years old there is still time to develop. But right now this is a horse searching for the right conditions, the right race, or simply a good day that has so far refused to arrive.
