What works in Espritroyale's favour is the team behind it. Trainer Gavin Cromwell, based in Navan, Co. Meath, has sent out 97 winners already this season — that's a genuinely productive yard, and horses trained there tend to get plenty of opportunity to develop and find their level. The fact that Espritroyale raced just one day ago shows it's an active, busy campaign, which often means the yard are testing the horse across different conditions and distances to work out where it belongs.

At this stage, the honest assessment is that Espritroyale is still a work in progress. But being in a yard firing out winners at this rate means it's in good hands — and plenty of horses take more than five races to figure out what they're doing.
