The first win arrived at The Curragh in July 2024, which is Ireland's most prestigious flat track — not the kind of place you stumble onto a win by accident. The most recent came at Roscommon in October 2025, with a gap of nine months between that day and now. That's a long time between victories, and the recent form confirms it: in the last six races, Ephesus has finished ninth, pulled up, eleventh, sixth, and twice twelfth. That's a horse that is clearly finding things tough at the moment.

What gives the story some shape is the pattern of when Ephesus does perform. On normal ground — not wet, not firm, just standard conditions — the record reads 2 wins from 6 races, which is 33%, or roughly 1 in every 3 outings. That is a dramatically better return than the overall career average, and it tells you the horse has a firm preference. Stretch the trip out to between a mile and six furlongs and two miles, and you again see the best numbers: 2 wins from 8 races, or 1 in 4. Put those two things together — right distance, right ground — and Ephesus becomes a very different proposition.

Regular partner Daniel King has ridden Ephesus in 11 of its 26 races, winning once together — roughly 1 in every 11 rides. That's a modest return, though it's worth noting King has had to deal with a horse that currently finds itself in a rough patch. Hogan's yard, meanwhile, is flying: 54 winners sent out this season alone, which is a mark of a yard operating at real volume and with strong horses in work.

Ephesus raced just yesterday, so the team clearly keeps the horse busy and competitive. The form line won't frighten many people right now, but the combination of a course win at The Curragh, clear preferences for distance and ground, and a busy yard behind it means this is a horse worth watching when the conditions line up just right.
