Trained by S Woods out of Newmarket, one of the most famous racing towns in the world, Encounter is operating in a competitive environment from day one. The yard has been in good form this season, sending out 24 winners, so the infrastructure and know-how are clearly there. A finishing position of sixth on debut, followed by a third and then a second, tells an interesting story — this is a horse that appears to be learning and improving with each race. That kind of upward curve in a two-year-old is exactly what trainers look for.
