Elvetham

The first win came at Kempton Park in early March 2026, and the second followed at Lingfield Park on 30 April — just three weeks ago. Both tracks are all-weather venues, which is worth noting: they suit horses who handle synthetic surfaces, and Elvetham appears to be one of them. The preferred distance is short and sharp — between five and six-and-a-half furlongs — and that's where the results back it up. Two wins from seven races at those distances works out at 29%, which means nearly 1 in every 3 races at the right trip ends in victory. That's a very different horse from the one the overall career record might suggest.

Conrad Allen trains Elvetham out of Newmarket, one of British racing's great centres, and his yard has already sent out 13 winners this season — a healthy return that shows the stable is in good form. The most regular partner in the saddle has been Chris Hayes, but their eight races together have not produced a win, which is a curious footnote given that both of Elvetham's career victories have come with someone else aboard. It doesn't mean the combination can't work, but it's the kind of detail a regular follower would keep an eye on.

Most of Elvetham's races have come at Class 6 level, which is the entry level of British Flat racing — the bread-and-butter contests that fill out race cards week after week. Winning 1 from 7 at that level (14%, or roughly 1 in 7) is unspectacular, but the two recent wins suggest the horse is improving at just the right moment. Elvetham raced just yesterday and is clearly being kept busy, which usually means a trainer who thinks their horse is in good enough shape to keep running. Right now, that confidence looks justified.
