Elmakaya

The colt runs for D K Weld's Curragh yard, one of Ireland's most successful racing operations. Weld has already sent out 21 winners this season, so there is real experience and firepower behind Elmakaya's training. The recent form reads encouragingly enough: a third place, followed by a fourth, another third, and a second, which suggests the horse is competitive at its level and running consistently in the money. That second-place finish in particular shows it can get close to winning. For a horse that has not yet tasted victory, finding the frame in four of five starts is a solid foundation — many young horses take longer to find their feet — but the challenge now is converting those near-misses into the real thing. Given that Elmakaya raced only yesterday and remains active, it will have more chances ahead to finally get its head in front.
