The breeding is worth a look. The sire, Night Of Thunder, won the 2014 Qipco 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket and has become a reliable source of sharp, precocious horses who tend to be at their best on fast, dry ground. The dam's side brings in Foxwedge, an Australian-bred sprinter known for speed. Put those two together and you would expect a horse built to travel quickly over shorter distances — though three-year-olds can surprise you.

What does give confidence is the trainer. James Fanshawe operates out of Newmarket and has sent out 45 winners already this season — that is a yard running in serious form. Fanshawe has a long-standing reputation for placing horses well and producing them fit on debut, which means Electric Dreams arriving on a racecourse for the first time is not something to dismiss lightly. A first-time runner from a cold yard is one thing; a first-time runner from a yard firing like this is quite another. Whether the horse lives up to the promise of its pedigree is the only question left to answer.
