What is worth noting is the yard behind this horse. Trainer Alan King, based in Wroughton, Wiltshire, has sent out 57 winners already this season, which tells you this is a serious, well-resourced operation with plenty of firepower. Horses from a yard running at that kind of volume are rarely short of preparation or know-how, so El Paso is at least in capable hands as it learns the ropes.
One race at two years old tells you almost nothing about a horse's future. Many good horses look ordinary early on and simply need time and experience to find their feet. Whether El Paso is one of those is a question only more racing will answer.
