Edwin Hubble

The horse has been placed six times from nine races, so he is competitive and consistent in the sense that he regularly finishes in the frame. However, those six places have come alongside just the one win, which tells you he is still learning to get over the line when it matters. His form over the past six races reads 3-1-5-2-7-2 — so after a third place, he won, but then disappointed with a fifth and a seventh before bouncing back with placings in his last two starts. It is the kind of up-and-down form you see in a young horse finding his feet.

The sweet spot for Edwin Hubble appears to be distances between a mile and one furlong and a mile and two furlongs. Over that range he has won one of four races — a 25 per cent win rate — which is solid enough to suggest he knows what he is doing when asked to stay that far. He has been campaigned mostly in Class 4 company, where he has yet to win from three attempts, so he is learning the ropes at a respectable level without dominating it. Brian Meehan's Manton yard has sent out 12 winners this season, and Edwin Hubble, with his recent breakthrough, looks like he could develop into a useful contributor to that total. Racing just a day ago, he remains very much active and hunting for his next opportunity.
